Cenk Uygur: Why Do You Need Immunity If You Haven't Broken the Law? (1 comments) The Bush administration is desperately trying to get immunity for the telecom companies inserted into the next wiretapping bill. But let me ask a simple question - why would the telecom companies need immunity if they didn't break the law? I'm not trying to be clever here. I'm asking a literal question. Isn't this an obvious admission that the administration did ask the large telecommunication companies to break the law ?

Dave Lindorff: What are Progressives Waiting For? (8 comments) The Democrats have made it clear: They're not going to end the war, and they're not going to impeach. They're not even going to stop the spying on Americans. How much more abuse do progressives plan to stand for?

Dean Powers: On Wiretapping, Democrats Ask Bush: "Would You Like it Gift-Wrapped?" (6 comments) Rooting for the Democrats is like rooting for the Chicago Cubs...

Hart's hoax leaves mark on society

Ever did a quick Yahoo! search for recruiting sites? If so, it probably wasn't so quick after all because they are so many to choose from. Recruiting is no longer reserved for the periods leading up to signing day. It's become a 365-days-a-year business, where some guy sitting behind a keyboard in the middle of nowhere is so obsessed with where the next Johnny Come Lately is bound for that he will do anything - (ITALICS) anything (ITALICS END) - to beat the competition. Message boards and chat rooms eat the latest gossip up. Some of the most viewed stories on the Web last week involved (what else?) recruiting.

Sports are no longer about teaching youth the core values, such a sportsmanship and teamwork. The days when they were just about having some fun after school vanished years ago.

Bagan mark too good to miss

One of his principal rivals for the Arkle, the ante post favourite Noland, is the main attraction at Sandown Park today. He runs in the Durkan Group Novice Chase. After a smooth and very convincing win first time out over fences at Folkestone in January, he has scared off a lot of his potential opposition and faces just four rivals.

Trainer Paul Nicholls, who makes no bones about Noland being one of his best chances at the Festival, picked Sandown ahead of Kempton tomorrow because he is keen to give him experience of jumping fences on an undulating track.

Nominate your good neighbours

PEOPLE in Hampshire are being asked to put forward good neighbours who have made a difference either to them personally or to the community at large.

Hampshire County Council has launched its Good Neighbour Award Scheme for 07/08, giving people the opportunity to say thank you and reward the support of volunteers and friends, whether someone who collects shopping for an elderly neighbour or helps tidy gardens.

Leader of Hampshire County Council Councillor Ken Thornber said: "We have been hosting these awards for three years now and it's an occasion that I really look forward to. Hampshire County Council recognises that good neighbours are essential in our local communities and this awards scheme is an opportunity to reward and encourage those that volunteer their own time to support others."
