Malware writers exploring Software as a Service model
The business of writing, buying, and selling malware has become increasingly commercial over the past few years, but a new report from online security firm Finjan sheds light on just how mainstream the crimeware business has gone. Earlier this month, the company discovered a small, standalone application gathering data on over 8,700 servers, including web sites from 2,500 North American companies and a handful of sites in Alexa's top 100 ranking. Potential buyers were able to log into the malicious server hosting the data-gathering service and evaluate any given web site's size and Google Page Rank to decide whether or not the site's FTP information was worth purchasing or not. The concept of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is nothing new, but this is the first time anyone has organized the purchase of FTP login credentials, with additional tools available to help a buyer confirm he's making a smart purchase.
Viewers' Comments On Randy Salerno - Part 21
Keep family first. Cherish your friends. Remember where you came from. Live in the moment. The "smart-aleck" kid from Crystal Lake taught us many things by just being himself. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this tragedy.--Curt Mitchell, Hinsdale, ILI have written before, but I had to tell this story. When Randy died it hit me hard as it was so sad, as he left his family and friends behind. After watching all the tributes and hearing the stories of Randy from his friends and family, I realized he was just like my brother-in-law who was killed going on three years in Aug. on Lake Shore Drive in a traffic accident. Jeffrey who was killed was just like Randy and would get away with comments of how he handled himself. I was with Jeffrey the day he died as we buried my friend his cousin, and we were sitting at the table for the lucheon and Jeffrey had us in stiches laughing.

CHS assistant principal dies in morning wreck
Pritchett broke the news and discussed efforts to meet anticipated counseling needs in a brief meeting with teachers and staff before the start of school. Teachers shared the news of the wreck with students at the start of first period. Social studies teacher and head basketball coach Jeff Cody taught with Findley and described her as a professional who was dedicated to CHS and the students she served."She was a true servant, and that's what made her special," Cody said. "She will be missed."Students also were also shaken by Findley's death. "I think there's a lot of shock," said Student Council President Will Snider. "Nobody expects something like this. She gave us so much support. She was always nice. I never heard a bad word spoken about her among the student body, which is pleasing, considering her role as an assistant principal, which is a tough position."She was always funny and extremely nice to every one of us.
Obama defends ability to handle crisis
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) -- Looking ahead to Saturday's caucus, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama had to cope with some pesky issues of the recent week, defending himself against an ad that ran in Texas and the fallout from a former adviser's remarks. His presidential rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, won the Ohio and Texas primaries Tuesday after questioning Obama's fitness to handle crises. On Wyoming's friendlier landscape, where he is expected to win Saturday, Obama seemed determined to ease voters' minds - and to take a few jabs at Clinton. Speaking in a crowded gym in Casper on Friday, Obama alluded to Clinton's Texas ad, which suggested that only she has the experience and mettle to handle a national crisis at 3 a.m. "That is designed to feed into your fears," Obama said.

Recession, mes-mession
Among the bad news, hype and hostile opinion in the March 2 edition of your paper, one article stood out to me as positive: "Getting set to map North County" by SDNEDC (San Diego North Economic Development Council) CEO Gary Knight. The concept of mapping assets of North County instead of cataloguing "concerns" is an outstanding change of pace and should be applauded strongly.Recent studies, as revealed in the book "Strength Finder," indicate that success comes much easier when people and organizations focus on core strengths rather than striving to correct weaknesses. Would this be true for our region also? How would we know without a map of our assets?Nothing happens in government or at home until someone makes the sale. Economic strength is the only source of the funds for all the concerns expressed ad nauseam in the press.
