2005 Failla Estate Vineyard Sonoma Coast Syrah ($56) Ehren Jordan's day job as winemaker at Turley Wine Cellars keeps him plenty busy, but it's his own wines under the Failla label (his wife's name) that captivate us, including a Syrah from Napa's Phoenix Ranch. His new Syrah from Failla's estate vineyard on Gualala Ranch, along the Sonoma Coast, simply blew us away. A powerhouse nose of lavish white and black pepper, sweet game meat and hints of tar, touches of oak and ripe boysenberry give way to an edgy palate and nuanced, fine-grained finish. Simply extraordinary. 2005 Jaffurs Santa Barbara County Grenache ($28) Craig Jaffurs is better known for his Syrah, but here he has taken on the other great Rhone grape, and coaxed impressive berry and nutmeg and toasted spice flavors out of his fruit.

IIS 6.0 Mature at Last
WHEN I FIRST TAUGHT Windows NT 4.0 courses, Internet Information Server (IIS) 2.0 was included in the base operating system. It was a big improvement over IIS 1.0, and I still remember the fun I had showing students how easy it was to set up a Web server. That was about six years ago, when Web servers running on NT were an exception. Since then, things have changed considerably. IIS has improved in performance, increased in functionality and grown in the number of deployments because of the changes. Netcraft reports that IIS has between 24 percent and 35 percent of the market, depending on how its measured. I expect the increased security and performance of IIS 6.0 to bump up those numbers a great deal. So lets look at IIS 6.0 and what it brings to the table. In putting together this article, I sat down with several of my former IIS students over lunch and showed them the new Process Model for IIS 6.0.

Collier's sheriff again hosting citizens academy
Anyone interested in learning more about the inner-workings of the Collier County Sheriff's Office will have an opportunity this spring when the agency once again hosts its citizens academy. The academy will be held every Monday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from April 14 through May 19 at the Professional Development Center, 615 Third Ave. S., Naples. The six-week academies are held two or three times a year. Over the six weeks participants typically learn about youth relations, dispatch, the marine unit, the jail, the SWAT team, among other aspects of law enforcement. Anyone interested in attending needs to fill out an application. Applications can by obtained on the Sheriff's Office's Web site, www.colliersheriff.org, but clicking on "How Do I?" and then clicking "Attend the Citizens Academy." Completed applications can be faxed or mailed to the Sheriff's Office's Public Affairs Bureau.
